Your information stays yours.
How the guide works and how you stay in control.
Browse, plan and use your own calendar
Public information, trip tools and calendar exports are available without an account. Calendar buttons create a copy you choose to add. They cannot read your existing calendar, and a copied event does not automatically update when an organizer changes or cancels it.
Saved plans, usual trips and discovery progress stay in this browser on this device. Someone using the same browser profile can see those saves. Remove individual items or erase device saves in My Day. Use its backup and import controls to move your choices to another browser or device.
Bus address searches
As you type in the bus planner, your address or place query is sent to the City of Quinte West’s public address service or Photon, a geocoder using OpenStreetMap data, to suggest matching locations. Queries and matches use temporary memory caches while you search. Quinte West journeys use Quinte Transit’s journey planner. Belleville journeys are calculated here using Belleville Transit’s published timetable. Selected locations and travel time are processed to answer your search. Exact addresses are not added to your saved usual trips or the page URL. Stop maps and GPS confirmation previews load street tiles from OpenStreetMap. That provider receives requests for the viewed map area; the exact GPS marker is drawn on your device. Confirm the detected position before using it as a starting point. If you open walking directions in Google Maps, the selected starting point and destination are shared with Google. Opening an external planner shares the trip with that provider.
Location for directions
“Use my location” can fill the starting point in either transit planner, find nearby stops, or prepare directions to a place or event. It requests one fresh position when you tap; there is no continuous tracker. A recent position may be reused in memory for up to two minutes while this page remains open. QRC does not save it in browser storage, your plans, audience statistics or an account. Clear location removes the shared position; reloading or leaving the page also clears it. Selected transit endpoints already in an open form remain until you edit them or leave.
Finding a bus journey sends the selected start and destination to QRC to answer that request; Quinte West trips are forwarded to Quinte Transit. Opening directions in Google Maps shares those selected points with Google. You can enter an address instead, change the starting point, or use Maps without supplying one. Browsing a place or selecting your guide area does not submit a trip or change your collection reminders.
Activities and organizations
Listings link to organizers, venues and employers for current details, booking and applications. Registration and participation are arranged directly with those providers. Review their privacy information before entering personal details on an external site.
City selection & optional location
The city selector is optional. “Use my location” requests browser permission and compares the position with public municipal boundaries on your device. For city selection, coordinates and movement history are not sent to this site’s server or saved. Only your area and automatic/manual preference are stored in this browser; the selected area is also used to serve local pages. You can select a city without granting location permission. Configured areas are part of the same app, with saved plans kept in this browser. After you enable automatic selection, checks run while the app is visible, on opening or returning to it and at most once every five minutes. There is no background location watcher. A manual choice stays selected until you enable automatic location again.
Audience statistics
QRC measures daily visitors, page views, popular sections, broad network areas, tagged QR/campaign landings, outbound-link clicks and browser-reported app installations. This helps improve the guide and describe its audience to potential advertisers.
We do not store IP addresses, exact GPS coordinates, account identities, search terms or full referral URLs in these statistics. A random first-party cookie expires at local midnight; temporary deduplication hashes are removed after two days. Daily aggregate totals are retained. Origin-area visitor counts deduplicate each browser within a Toronto day and network city; area page views are separate. Short campaign labels from tagged links are aggregated, while full query strings are discarded. Broad areas come from the hosting network and may reflect an internet provider or VPN, rather than where someone is standing.
We honour Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. App installs are counted only when the browser reports them; install-button clicks and app usage are separate measures. These are estimates, not verified counts of people.
Optional audience measurement is on in this browser.
Finding local information
The local guide matches your question to the site’s checked public information. It cannot read your personal calendar. Booking, applications and registration take place with the provider you choose.
Bus journeys come from the transit planner, and movie times come from the theatre’s schedule. Confirm availability with the provider before making arrangements.
Your controls
My Day lets you remove saved items and erase this browser’s saved choices. Removing a saved plan does not delete copies you have added to an external calendar. The installed app needs a connection for current schedules and listings; its offline screen does not present cached journeys as current.
Optional audience measurement can be turned off above. Your browser’s Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control settings are also respected. Necessary hosting and abuse-control logs may be retained separately.
Optional push reminders
Reminders are off until you choose categories and enable browser notifications. You can choose collection, leaf pickup, Santa Claus parades or fireworks separately. We store your browser’s push delivery endpoint and encryption keys, selected area and categories, and any home collection weekday, collection area or leaf zone you choose. We do not need your name, home address or GPS coordinates. Delivery uses your browser’s push provider. Change your choices or turn reminders off at any time; you can also revoke permission in browser settings. Notification text may appear on your lock screen. Subscriptions expire after a year without updating preferences and are removed when the push provider reports they are no longer valid.
Independent and connected
Quinte Region Connect is an independent community project. Links to the City, transit operator, theatre, Chamber, volunteer agencies and employers identify the source; they do not imply a partnership or endorsement. Your browser or the linked provider controls what happens after you leave this site.
